Solar, born Kim Yongsun, is a South Korean singer and the leader and a main vocalist of the RBW girl group Mamamoo, which debuted in 2014 and became known for its vocal strength and retro, soul-inflected pop. Within Mamamoo she is recognized for her powerful, technically assured singing. She made her official solo debut on April 23, 2020 with the single "Spit It Out," a self-confident dance track co-written by Solar, becoming the final Mamamoo member to launch a solo career after Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa. Her solo output has spanned bold dance-pop and ballads, and she has been active across variety television and as a content creator. As a vocalist she is frequently cited among the strongest of her generation. Solar's solo work runs alongside her continued activity with Mamamoo, one of the most distinctive girl groups of K-pop's third generation.
