Onew, born Lee Jin-ki, is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actor who debuted in May 2008 as the leader and a lead vocalist of SHINee, one of South Korea's best-selling and most influential boy groups. He was scouted at an SM Entertainment audition and trained before debuting with the group. Onew made his solo debut on December 5, 2018, with the EP "Voice," shortly before beginning his mandatory military service. After completing service he returned with the EP "Dice" in 2022 and a Japanese studio album, "Life Goes On," the same year, continuing to release solo material in both markets. Alongside music he has built an acting career across musicals and television dramas, with roles including the resident doctor Lee Chi-hoon in the popular drama "Descendants of the Sun." Known for his warm tone and his leadership within SHINee, Onew has maintained a steady solo output centered on melodic pop and ballads.
