Kep1er are a multinational girl group formed through the 2021 Mnet survival show Girls Planet 999, which brought together contestants from South Korea, Japan, and China. The nine-member lineup consists of Choi Yu-jin, Shen Xiaoting, Kim Chae-hyun, Kim Da-yeon, Huening Bahiyyih, Hikaru Ezaki, Mashiro Sakamoto, Seo Young-eun, and Kang Ye-seo. Managed under WAKEONE and Swing Entertainment, the group debuted on January 3, 2022 with the EP "First Impact" and its lead single "Wa Da Da," winning their first music-program award on M Countdown later that month. Conceived as a project group with a fixed contract period, Kep1er released further EPs including "Doublast" and "Troubleshooter" and promoted in both Korea and Japan during their fourth-generation run, building a parallel presence in the Japanese market alongside their Korean releases. Their early singles charted strongly on Circle Chart, and the group earned multiple rookie awards at year-end ceremonies, establishing them among the survival-show groups that gained international fan followings in the early 2020s.
