Jonghyun, born Kim Jong-hyun, was a South Korean singer-songwriter, producer, and radio host who debuted in 2008 as the lead vocalist of SHINee, one of the most influential boy groups of his generation. Known for his expressive voice and his work as a writer, he wrote and produced extensively for SHINee and for other artists. He launched a solo career in 2015 with the EP "Base," which featured collaborations with established singers, and the same year released "Story Op.1," a self-composed collection drawn in part from songs he had written for his radio program. He followed with the full-length album "She Is" in 2016 and continued to develop a body of intimate, R&B-leaning solo material that showcased him as a singer-songwriter. He also hosted the radio show "Blue Night," where he connected with listeners through music and conversation. Jonghyun died in December 2017. He is remembered for his artistry, his songwriting, and the warmth of his music.
