About CL

CL is a South Korean singer and rapper who debuted in 2009 as the leader of 2NE1 under YG Entertainment, one of the most successful girl groups of K-pop's second generation. Recognized for her commanding rap delivery and stage presence, she became the public face of 2NE1's bold, hip-hop-influenced sound. CL began releasing solo material while still in the group, including the 2013 single "The Baddest Female," and later pursued a career in the United States. After leaving YG, she founded her own independent label, Very Cherry, through which she released her debut studio album "Alpha" on October 20, 2021, marking her first full-length record as a soloist. The album featured an assertive, self-directed artistic vision and guest contributions including a spoken intro by John Malkovich. As both a group leader and an independent artist, CL is regarded as an influential figure in shaping the assertive, genre-blending image of second-generation K-pop.
