KARD are a South Korean co-ed group under DSP Media, made up of four members: J.Seph, BM, Somin, and Jiwoo. They officially debuted on July 19, 2017 with the EP "Hola Hola," preceded by a series of pre-debut singles including "Oh NaNa," "Don't Recall," and "Rumor." The group's name references playing cards, with each member tied to a suit or face card, summarized as King, Ace, jokeR, and hiDden. As one of the few sustained mixed-gender idol groups in a market dominated by single-gender acts, KARD built a distinct identity around moombahton, tropical house, and reggae-inflected dance music. They gained a notably strong international following early on, touring widely across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and built much of their early momentum abroad rather than solely through domestic promotions. The two male members, BM and J.Seph, handle much of the rap, while Somin and Jiwoo anchor vocals and performance. As a third-generation act, KARD stand out for normalizing a co-ed format and for an electronic-leaning sound that set them apart from mainstream K-pop trends of their debut era, remaining one of the most prominent mixed-gender groups in the industry.
