CNBLUE is a South Korean pop rock band formed by FNC Entertainment. The band released its debut Japanese extended play, Now or Never, in 2009 before making its Korean debut on January 14, 2010, with the lead single "I'm a Loner" from the extended play Bluetory. The name combines CN, for Code Name, with BLUE, a backronym for burning, lovely, untouchable, and emotional, with each word originally tied to the image of one member. Led by vocalist and guitarist Jung Yong-hwa, who has written many of the band's songs, CNBLUE plays its own instruments, a quality that set it apart from the dance-focused idol groups that dominated its era. The band became one of the best-known idol bands of K-pop's second generation, building a long run of hits in Korea while promoting extensively in Japan through Japanese-language releases and touring.
