2PM are a South Korean boy group formed by JYP Entertainment, debuting on September 4, 2008 with the single "10 Out of 10." The group emerged from the reality program "Hot Blood," which split a larger trainee pool into 2PM and its sister act 2AM. Originally seven members, 2PM continued as Jun. K, Nichkhun, Taecyeon, Wooyoung, Junho, and Chansung after Jay Park left in 2009. Known early on for an athletic, "beastly idol" image that pushed against the softer trends of the era, the group broke through with hits including "Again & Again" and "Heartbeat." 2PM built a substantial following in Japan, where they released Japanese-language albums and toured extensively, and members pursued acting and solo music alongside group activities. As one of the defining boy groups of K-pop's second generation, 2PM helped popularize a more muscular, performance-driven style of male idol and remained active across more than a decade despite extended military service breaks among the members.
